Daughter of James J. Garvey and Rachel Johnson; wife of William Winton Howell. She and her husband moved to Wilkes County in approximately 1903, buying a farm in which is now known as the Cricket community. She was active in church and community affairs and she was postmistress of the community, keeping the post office in a room of her home.
