Margaret L. ``Jackie'' Baum, 88, of Silvis, formerly of St. Louis and Piedmont, Mo., died Saturday, March 29, 2008, in Illini Restorative Care, Silvis.
Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Rev. Jay Regennitter officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday in Masonic Cemetery, Piedmont. Visitation is one hour before the services. Memorials may be made to Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, or First Baptist Church, Piedmont.
The former Margaret Gemmill was born May 30, 1919, in Cutler, Ill., the daughter of Ralph and Ethel Brown Gemmill.
In her youth, she worked in the Gemmill family's ice cream and butter business, which sold products throughout southern Illinois. She married Howard A. Baum in St. Louis. He died May 8, 1988.
She was employed at AT&T in St. Louis for many years. When Howard retired, the couple moved to Piedmont, his hometown, to enjoy boating and fishing on Clear Water Lake. After Howard's death, she devoted her life in Piedmont to caring for Howard's mother, Taney Baum. She moved to the Quad-Cities in 1997 to be closer to family. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Piedmont, and attended Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline.
Jackie is survived by four nephews and nieces and their spouses, Don and Sherry Margenthaler, Moline, John R. ``Jack'' Margenthaler, Mankato, Minn., Roxanne and Scott Matkin, San Antonio, Texas, and Becky and Jim Price, St. Louis; and four great-nieces and great-nephews and their families, Jackie and Max Guinn, Pleasant Valley, Iowa, Russell Margenthaler, Moline, Matt and Dawn Margenthaler, Mankato, and Tye and Julie Margenthaler, Madison, Wis. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her only sister, Dorothy Margenthaler.
