Peter Joseph, son of Adam Fischer and Anna Elisabeth Hohenadel, was born 15 June 1872 in Eagle Creek Township, Scott County, Minnesota. (Minnesota Births and Christenings, 1840-1980) Peter's obituary, however, indicates he was born 5 May 1872 in Shakopee, Scott County, Minnesota.

Peter's mother died in 1877 when Peter was about 4 years old. By 1880, Peter's father and family moved to Norfolk Township, Renville, Minnesota. In 1881, Peter's father married twice-divorced Fredericka Marquardt Lindorf. Adam was quite reclusive and this marriage apparently isolated Adam even more. In 1885, Peter (age 13) was not living with his father and step-mother.

As a young man, Peter lived in Bird Island, Renville County, Minnesota and was engaged in the blacksmith trade.

On 25 June 1893, Peter (age 21) married Edith Appolonia Marsh (age 21), daughter of Mathias Marsh and Josephina Lutie, in McLeod County, Minnesota. (Minnesota Official Marriage System) Peter's obituary indicates the couple was married on 26 June 1893 in Bird Island which is in Renville County, Minnesota. This does not agree with the recorded marriage. Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved to Buffalo Lake, Renville County, Minnesota. They had four children, all born in Buffalo Lake. Two daughters died in infancy. Two surviving sons were:
• Harvey Adam, born 10 January 1895.
• Mayo Mathias, born 10 May 1898.

In Buffalo Lake, Peter and his brother, John S., worked together as blacksmiths. Additonally, "Mr. Fischer was a member of the village council at Buffalo Lake and was chief of its fire department for 12 years…For more than 30 years he was interested in band work and participated in musical organizations in towns in which he made his home." (Unknown newspaper, 1953)

About 1916, Peter moved to Olivia, Renville County, Minnesota where he continued in the blacksmith trade. He retired about 1935. He and his wife moved to Redwood Falls, Redwood County, Minnesota where they lived with their son, Mayo, and his wife. Mayo and his wife owned a music store there.

On 17 January 1953, Peter (age 80) died in a nursing home in Redwood Falls. His obituary, in part, reads: "Funeral services were held this afternoon at the Presbyterian church here for Peter J. Fischer, 80, a resident of the area most of his life, who died at the rest home Saturday at 4 p.m. Rev. A. E. Goldhorn conducted the rites and a quartet from the church choir, directed by Mrs. R. R. Huffman, sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "In the Garden." Pallbearers were M. O. Hanson, Carl Bjerke, W. H. Lamerton, J. A. Isaacson, Walter Hassenstab and H. E. Kickul. Burial was at Redwood Falls cemetery. Mr. Fischer had been ill three years following a stroke….He is survived by his wife, who also is 80, two sons, Harvey A. Fischer of LeSueur and Mayo M. Fischer of Redwood Falls, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren and one brother William Fischer of Silverton, Ore. Two daughters died at birth and six sisters and two brothers preceded him in death." (Unknown newspaper)
