Bess was born in Orangeburg, SC, a daughter of the late Franklin Felder Kinsey and Bessie Lee Brant Kinsey. She was a graduate of Orangeburg High School, and following graduation earned a business degree. Bess worked as the Admissions Director of The Methodist Home for thirty years. She was a lifetime member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, and loved her church family. Bess enjoyed gardening, even though she didn't have a "green thumb." She loved to travel and went on many wonderful excursions with her family. She especially enjoyed the annual "sister trips" to the mountains in North Carolina. Bess lived a full life, and enjoyed her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other family, and friends.
Survivors include her son, James S. Clifton, III of Summerton; daughter, Linda C. Smith (Skeet) of Gilbert; sisters, Nell K. White, Betty K. Barber, Patsy K. Hooker, all of Irmo, and Barbara K. King (Ronald) of Lexington; sister-in-law, Pam Kinsey; brother-in-law, James Harley; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was blessed with ten grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers, Franklin F. Kinsey, Jr. and Jim Kinsey; and sister, Mary Ann Harley.
Memorials may be sent to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1356 Amelia Street, Orangeburg, SC 29115 or to a charity of one's choice.
