Her heritage is rich with noble ancestor that range from pilgrims on the Mayflower, veterans of the Revolutionary War, World War I and she had four brothers who fought in and survived World War II. Shortly after the U.S. involvement in World War II, Anita's husband, Harry James Hobaugh, took a job on Mare Island Shipyard in the Power Plant. Harry eventually became the superintendent of the Public Works Utility Shop until his retirement in 1972 after 30 years of service.

Among her hobbies were bowling and camping at beautiful Lake Tahoe, Bass Lake and the coastline.
In 1971, Anita and Harry became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were they became active in teaching leadership roles and singing in the chior. Anita is quoted in one of her letters as saying, "I am thankful I found a new life in the gospel. I found love with my brothers and sisters in the church. A home to come home to. Peace and Joy."
Anita's husband of 63 years, Harry Hobaugh, preceded her in death by two years. She is survived by Harry Hobaugh, Jr., Dave Hobaugh and Mollie Sorensen of Napa. Anita Lynn of Santa Barbara and Marilyn Sowards of San Jose. Anita and Harry took great delight in their 33 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren, which they somehow were able to keep track of.
