Gladys Maxine Duncan-Napier, 67 years 4 months and 22 days of age of Somerset, formerly of Monticello, Kentucky, departed this life unexpectedly on Monday, July 3rd, 2023 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.

Gladys was born in Wayne County, Kentucky on Saturday, February 11th, 1956, daughter of the late Russell Arthur Napier and Marcella Cowan Napier. She was a 1974 graduate of Wayne County High School. She was married to the late Alphonso Duncan Sr. Gladys enjoyed gardening, watching her favorite tv shows, hiking or walking, and spending time with her grandchildren which she raised. She was of the Christian faith and a member of the Mt. Zion AME Church of Frazer, Kentucky.

Gladys was survived by two sons, Joshua Duncan and Alphonso Duncan Jr.; two grandchildren, Quanisha Duncan and Arkaris Duncan; brother, Bobby (and Shirley) Napier; seven sisters, Ella Mae (and Rev. Charles) Johnson, Casey Napier, Barbara Napier, Betty Buster, Dixie Napier, Kathleen Napier (and John Barnes), and Patsy Perkins; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends who mourn her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell Arthur Napier, who departed this life on March 4th, 2004 and Marcella Napier, who departed this life on November 8th, 1995; her husband, Alphonso Duncan Sr., who departed this life on August 25th, 1997; one son, Tobias Duncan, who departed this life on July 13th, 2014; one sister, Gracie Ann Napier, who departed this life on July 26th, 2014; and a special friend, John A. "Johnny" Miller II, who departed this life on May 22nd, 2019.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service was held at a later date for Gladys.

Gladys was buried with her son, Tobias in the Southern Oaks Cemetery in Somerset, Kentucky.

The Somerset Undertaking Company & Crematory in Somerset, Kentucky was in charge of the arrangements for Gladys.
