John H. McGee born 1810 in Mercer County, Kentucky, USA, son of William McGee and Jane Bigham-McGee. John with his parents moved to Johnson, Indiana where he married Mahala LaGrange the daughter of Peter and Lavina LaGrange. John's brother Joseph M. McGee married Mahala's sister Minerva LaGrange.

John and Mahala had five children
1. Sarah Jane McGee
2. William Henry McGee d. 1865
3. Peter Dumont McGee m Margaret Elizabeth Monroe
4. Martha Ellen "Maggie" McGee, she never married, but had one child out of wedlock named Olive Inis "Ollie"McGee Engleman
5. Andrew Jackson McGee m Laura Bell Powers

Both John and his wife Mahala died sometime after 1860 because they are found in the 1860 census living with their children but not in the 1870 census. The obituary of their son Andrew Jackson McGee states that his parents died while he was very young and that he was then raised by his uncle. Their other children are found in other census records taken in by family members or neighbors.

John and Mahala McGee are thought to either be buried in the Greenwood Cemetery or the Hopewell Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Johnson Indiana.
