JOHNNIE MAE HENDRIX GUIDED 17 FOSTER CHILDREN
SHE AND HUSBAND OFFERED STABILITY AND LOVE

JOHNNIE MAE HENDRIX of Forest Park was inspiration of love and guidance to the many children who were welcomed into her home.
"Her major was bring a moter," said her husband of 42 years, Thomas. "She was a unique person who worked with children and saw a need to provide a place for them to stay," he said.
Mrs. Hendrix died of Lupus Saturday at Christ Hospital. The former Hamilton resident was 59.
She and her husband nurtured 17 foster children from the Hamilton and Middletown area along with their own four children.
in the late 1970s, Mrs. Hendrix worked five years as an assistant at the Miami Valley Children's Home in Hamilton. She was a library assistant and tearcher's aide at Harrison Elementary School in Hamilton. A son, of Lexington, Ky., remembers his mother supporting and treating each child equally.
"We wer brought up to let everyone feel wanted in our home. We never had to worry about being alone," he said. "She supported us throught our extracurricular activities in school. She was a remarkable woman... she cared for us all."
A foster daughter of College Hill, who stayed at the Hendrixes' home as a teen, remembers Mrs. Hendrix as a person who had a passion for children. "With me, it was a sense of pride in where you live. I felt that I was part of the family. I thank GOD it's a place where I ended up. When there is nothing settled in your life, it's good to come to a place where things are.: she said.
