Glenna A. Matlock, 92, Arkansas City, died Thursday, July 27, 2006, at the Presbyterian Manor Health Care Unit. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church of Arkansas City. Pastor Charles Grant will officiate. Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today.

Glenna was born Nov. 25, 1913, in Arlington, Kan., to William A. and Ida Mae (Butts) Simmonds. She was reared and educated in Hutchinson, graduating from Hutchinson High School in 1936. She married Isaac Newton "Ike" Matlock on June 10, 1939, in Pratt, Kan. The couple made their home in Hutchinson before moving to Minneola and later to Arkansas City in 1951. In Hutchinson, Glenna was the assistant manager of Dullies Hat Shop. She and her husband, Ike, owned and operated a grocery store in Minneola, and in Arkansas City they owned and operated Pence and Bales Grocery Store and later changed the name to Matlock's IGA. They also owned and operated the Thrifty Shop on the north end of town for 12 years. Glenna was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the Soroptomist Club, a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Denton Art Center, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and the Arkansas City Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include her granddaughter, Corey, and her husband, Travis Fox, and their children, MacKenzie and Morgan Wyatt Fox, of Atlanta, Ga.; grandson, Justin and his wife, April Matlock, and their children, Stormy and Skylar, of Winfield; daughter-in-law, Dora Matlock, of Arkansas City; step-grandson, Jim Engstrom and his wife, Julie, and their children, Jacob and Brandi; step-granddaughter, Jamie Engstrom, and her children, Taryn Pollard and Syncere Harper; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ike in 1981; son, Mike; three brothers; three sisters; and twin granddaughters.

A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church or the Soroptomist Club of Arkansas City.

Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.
