Alpheus Clawson, aged 87 years, died at his home in Hackettstown on the 15th. Mr. Clawson was the oldest resident of that place and had resided in the town three-quarters of a century. On election day, Tuesday, he cast his sixteenth ballot for President of the United States, but it was his sixty-sixth at State and municipal elections. He was elected five times Mayor of Hackettstown, served seven years as town clerk and one year as collector. For twenty-seven years he was the treasurer of the First Methodist Church of Hackettstown. Three children, beside a widow, survive: Mrs. George T. Everett, Mrs. T.B. Howel and Mrs. Robert Horner, all residents of Hackettstown.
