Martha Patty Thomas Hensley was born in 1833 in Yancey County North Carolina as the daughter of William Hunsuker Thomas and Nancy Willis Thomas. She is reflected on her father's 1850 census.

She married John Westley Hensley sometime prior to 1855. She was still living as of the 1910 census in Union County Georgia and died sometime thereafter. Her children included Emily, Elizabeth, William, Marion, Nancy, Lucinda, Martha, Azaline, John, and Augusta Ann.

Her current burial location is unknown and research into its whereabouts is ongoing.
