Joan Alice Lawrence, also known as Jody, 91, of Bonham TX was born there on October 14, 1931. She was the oldest child of R.L. and Winnie Lawrence, followed by sisters Reta Tollifson, Martina Akins, and brother Ben Lawrence. Jody passed from her earthly home on June 22, 2023 at Texoma Medical Center, Denison TX.
Jody graduated from Bonham High School in 1948 and was instrumental in starting the BHS All School Reunions. She worked tirelessly on keeping current lists of her classmates. Jody married Roy McMillan on October 26, 1952 in Bonham. They then moved to Cincinnati OH where she followed Roy's baseball career. First son, David, was born in October 1954 and then Marty in July 1958. Daughter Patsy, was born in October 1964 which was when Jody decided to return to Bonham to raise the kids. She was a homemaker, wonderful mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, a friend to many, and an excellent chocolate chip cookie baker. Jody worked at VPG for many years and did many volunteer projects with the Bonham Chamber of Commerce, Camp Fire Girls, and First Christian Church CYF, just to name a few. Jody enjoyed playing golf, playing bridge, and laughing at a good joke.
She is survived by her daughter Patsy and favorite son-in-law Mike Richardson. Grandchildren: Chad and Amanda Richardson, Nikki Richardson and Chris Clarke, Audrey and Ty Fry. Great Grandchildren: Ethan Richardson, Sydnee Richardson, Brayleigh Fry, and Ledger Fry. Brother Ben and Carolyn Lawrence. In addition, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lots of friends.
Jody was preceded in death by: her husband Roy, sons David and Marty, special friend Joe Murley, parents R.L. and Winnie, sisters Reta and Martina.
A visitation will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Wise Funeral Home Chapel followed by a memorial service at 3:00pm. Brother Rick Edwards will officiate.
The family would like to thank those who have sent food, texts, cards, visited, and prayed for Jody during her final days. She was a very loved and special lady. She will be greatly missed by all.
