He was born August 1, 1935 at Spearville the son of Albert and Alma (Ackerman) Schawe. Richard graduated high school from Windthorst High School and farmed in the area all his life.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Offerle as well as the Knights of Columbus and the Windthorst Cemetery Board.
Survivors include: a brother, Leroy Schawe and wife Donna, Dodge City; 2 sisters, Marilyn Strecker, Heizer, Kansas and Rosella Masten, Dodge City; a brother-in-law, Dennis Brown; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Darlene Brown, brothers-in-law, Bill Strecker and Ken Masten; and a nephew, Kevin Masten.
Rosary will be Thursday, February 16, 2023 at 9:30 am with Funeral Mass to follow both at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Windthorst, with Fr. Wesley Schawe presiding. Burial will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Windthorst. Visitation will be Wednesday from noon to 8:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City.
