Stella D. Kimberlin, 86, departed this life on Friday, June 30, 2023, in Richmond, Va.

Stella had lived at the Manor House in Short Pump for the past four years and at the Dunlop House in Colonia Heights before that.

But she spent most of her life living in Jarratt, Va., where she resided for nearly 55 years. Stella was a devoted wife to her husband Jim, who predeceased her in 2017, and a loving mother to her two children, Keith, and Jackie. Stella and Jim were high school sweethearts and were married for more than 60 years.

Stella enjoyed her many friends in Jarratt. Stella enjoyed knitting and crocheting and spent many hours in her flower and vegetable gardens. Stella and her husband shared the fruits of their labor with many in the community.

Stella also sold Avon products for many years and had a lengthy list of regular customers.

She enjoyed fishing and spent numerous hours on the ponds and lakes of Southside Virginia with her husband.

Stella and her husband were avid fans of gospel music and attended concerts together. They were known for taking long morning walks. They also put together an interactive Halloween display that delighted children of the community for many years.

She enjoyed reading and made sure her children were regular visitors to the bookmobile that frequented town in the summer months.

Stella was also known for having a very determined spirit throughout her life taking on any challenge presented to her with enthusiasm and unrelenting perseverance.

In the fall of 1969, she became an employee of the Sussex County Public School system where she worked as a teacher's aide at Jefferson Elementary School. She enjoyed her time working with children. Stella encouraged and inspired them with a gentle touch during her time there. She retired in the mid-1990s.

Stella enjoyed watching college basketball and football games and was a NASCAR fan.

Stella was an active member of the High Hills Baptist Church, Jarratt, and her Christian faith sustained her throughout her life.

Stella was born in the Buntontown section of Johnson County, Tennessee, on Sept. 10, 1936, a daughter of the late Joseph David Dugger and Valah (Brown). She grew up spending time in the hills and streams of the village with her late twin brother, James, late first cousin Raymond Campbell, and late older sister, Eulala.

Stella enjoyed her many trips back to the mountains of East Tennessee during summer vacations.

Stella is survived by a son, Keith Kimberlin, of Westerly, R.I., a daughter, Jackie Kimberlin, of Richmond, Va.; a grandson, Matthew Kimberlin (Tamiel) of Los Angeles; two granddaughters, Brittany Vincent (fiancé Brian Irwin), of Richmond, and Caitlin Kimberlin (Andrew Bailey), of Westerly; and three great-grandsons, Landon Bailey, of Westerly, and Indiana Kimberlin and Marlowe Kimberlin, both of Los Angeles.

She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank devoted family friend, W.H. Goodwyn, III, of Waverly, Va., for his weekly calls of support and fellowship with Stella.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 5 at High Hills Baptist Church where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to High Hills Baptist Church, P.O. Box 296, Jarratt, Virginia 23867.
