Horace "Keith" Taylor, age 94, of Faith, SD, passed away at Monument Health in Rapid City, SD, on Thursday morning, June 29, 2023.
The funeral for Keith will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at the Faith High School Gymnasium. Burial will follow in the Faith City Cemetery.
Visitation for Keith will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at the Faith Area Memorial Chapel in Faith, SD.
On May 24, 1929, a cowboy named Bill Taylor and his beautiful wife, Rachel, welcomed the last of their seven children into the world. Horace Keith Taylor was born two months early. His mother, Rachel, was desperately ill, and knowing that the end was near, she handed the tiny infant, Keith, to his Grandma Eliza and said, "Care for him until I call for him."
Ninety-four years later, on June 29, 2023, Keith's mama called for him. During those ninety-four years, Keith lived a life of good humor, integrity and hard work.
He grew up on his Grandparents' ranch in Yost, UT. Each morning and evening a herd of cows was waiting to be milked. The hay for those cows was cut and stacked with a team of horses.
From 1951-1953, Keith served his country in the US Army. Following his release, he began working for his uncle who was a beekeeper. When the opportunity to buy his own business arose, he took it. Any successful business needs a great partner, and Keith found the perfect partner and best friend in a young lady named Ann Putnam.
On November 2, 1955, Keith and Ann were married in the Logan, UT, temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and became a family of two.
Keith and Ann moved their family to Faith, SD, in 1976 and have resided there ever since.
Sixty-seven years later, the family of two has grown. Six children call him Dad: Gary (Anne) Taylor, Danette (Tom) Maxwell, Joe Taylor, Teresa (Steve) Falagrady, Paul (Holly) Taylor and Rachel (Evan) Clark. Twenty-one grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren call him Grandpa.
Keith was preceded in death by 5 siblings, and by his oldest son, Gary Taylor.
Keith was a humble man, so, among his qualities we will only list one. He had gratitude. He was thankful for his many blessing large and small. He was thankful for his family, his neighbors, and his friends. Seeing them happy made him happy.
During this week, with the sorrow it has brought, those same family and friends have been there to offer support, comfort, and prayers. Those prayers have been answered, and for that Dad would be grateful.
