Oscar served in the Navy during WWII. On October 9, 1945, the war was over and he was on his way home. His ship was caught in Typhoon Louise in a Pacific Ocean harbor. He was lost at sea. I have many of his letters that he wrote home to family. He adored his mother and often worried that his father was working too hard. He also wrote to his brothers and sisters. He was awarded several medals for his sacrifice and valor.
