October 14, 1923 - February 18, 2018
Our beloved mother Daphne passed away February 18, 2018, surrounded by family. Daphne was loved by so many people who enjoyed her positive outlook on life, her wisdom and her marvellous sense of humour. Daphne lived a life that was nine chapters long. Born into the Molson-Hay family in Kent, she went to war in England at age 17, as a driver for the British air force brass. She immigrated to Canada with her family after the war and married CBC Newsman Stanley Burke. They had four children, Brian, Kerry, Holly and Randy. The family lived in Vancouver, Ottawa, Connecticut, France, England and Toronto. For a time Daphne and Stanley lived on a houseboat on Granville Island. Eventually Daphne chose West Van as her favourite place to be, close to the ocean, the boats and wildlife that she so loved. Daphne volunteered at West Van Senior Centre for sixteen years, making many friends and singing happily with her "flower friends" on Sundays, creating beautiful floral arrangements. Our mother dedicated her life to helping others. Her love was so profound we were lucky to have known her. The last year of her life was spent at the Lynn Valley Care Centre, where true to form, she made many friends.
The Burke clan, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren carry on…
"I love you now and shall forever.
Your love may change but mine shall never.
Though separation be our lot,
Dearest Ones forget me not."
For Daphne Burke, always in our hearts.
