Jerry Dean Renbarger, 87, of Grinnell, Iowa, died on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at his home after a short illness.

Celebration of Life Gathering at Cox-Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery near LaMoille, Iowa. Jerry will be interred next to his grandparents, parents, and sister. Memorials may be designated to the Poweshiek Animal League Shelter.

Jerry was born on May 9, 1936, the son of Darwin and Vesta Renbarger in Grinnell. After graduating from Grinnell High School in 1954, he joined the US Air Force. Following eight years in the service, Jerry worked for AVCO and farmed. He worked as a telephone engineer at General Telephone Electronics (GTE) in Grinnell from 1969 until his retirement in 1999. Jerry lived on the family farm south of Grinnell until he moved to the city of Grinnell in 1979.

On August 1, 1981, Jerry married Susan Deppe who provided loving care until his passing. Jerry enjoyed spending time at the casino, Friday morning coffee with GTE friends, watching football, tinkering on the farm, and had a love for computer technology. He also enjoyed his furry companions, Ashley and Roxie.

Jerry is survived by Susan Deppe, of Grinnell, Iowa; children, Mike (Jean) Renbarger of Chamberlain, South Dakota, and Kathryn (Troy) Andrews of Coralville, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Karen Renbarger; stepchildren, Robin (Bill) McGinnis of Grinnell and Shannon Deppe of Grinnell; grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Darwin and Vesta Renbarger; son, Steve Renbarger; and sister, Betty Renbarger.
