Engaged as a volunteer in 1915 at the age of 18, in the 7th dragoon regiment, he became a cadet in the 10th battalion of foot hunters. He was killed on June 3, 1918 in Pernant (Aisne), a village where the German army was arrested during the second battle of the Marne (Ludendorff offensive), and declared "dead for France". He appears on the Honor Roll of the Great War, under the first name Paul. He is cited in the order of the army and decorated with the military medal posthumously.
