Bruce Anthony Lipke was born on July 20, 1932, the second of three children and the only son of Anthony and Clara (Kreischer) Lipke of North Syracuse, New York.

Bruce grew up in North Syracuse and also spent time living on his uncle's farm in Minoa. Both his father and his uncle, Alfred Kreischer, imparted to Bruce a strong work ethic through building houses and helping on the farm. Bruce graduated from North Syracuse High School in 1949. His first formal job was working with his father on the night shift in the screw machine department at Crouse Hinds in 1950.

Bruce married the love of his life, Sheila Anne Hughes, at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Mattydale on September 7, 1957. Together they raised three children. Bruce worked in the test department of the traffic control division of Crouse Hinds until he retired in 1970. He then began his second career with the Onondaga County Department of Transportation, Highway Division, at the former trolley barn on South Bay Road in the village of North Syracuse. Bruce managed the installation and maintenance of all traffic signals on Onondaga County roads until his retirement in 1994. Bruce also owned Syracuse Signal Systems, which he founded with a partner in 1965. Syracuse Signal Systems designed, installed, and maintained traffic lights for private businesses such as shopping centers, until Bruce sold the company in the early 1990's.

Bruce's wife, Sheila, passed away in May of 1985. In 1994, he married again and moved to Cleveland, Tennessee. He returned to Syracuse in 2016, following a divorce, to be near his children and grandchildren.

Bruce was a generous man with a big heart who enjoyed helping people. He loved animals, and if you knew him, you heard all about his shih tzu, Mattie, who was his companion for twelve years. After she died, he adopted another shih tzu and also called her Mattie. She was his pride and joy. He provided food and shelter to any stray animals that wandered into his yard. He kept the lawn mowed and the trees and bushes trimmed up until the week before his death. Bruce passed away on June 28, at age 90, after a brief illness. The birds, squirrels, raccoons, and homeless cats in the Fremont Hills area will certainly miss him.

Calling hours were from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Friday, July 7 at R. H. Schepp & Son Minoa Chapel, 6530 Schepp's Corners Road, Minoa. A memorial service followed at 12:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial was at North Syracuse Cemetery, followed by a reception at Jake Hafner's Restaurant in North Syracuse. Contributions in his memory may be made to HumaneCNY, 4915 West Taft Road, Liverpool, NY 13088.
