Funeral services for Cecil and Alma Carroll of El Reno will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at First Baptist Church with Rev. John V. Chennault officiating.
Interment will be in the El Reno Cemetery. Services are under direction of Wilson Funeral Home.

Mr. and Mrs. Carroll both died Thursday, March 13, 2008. Cecil died at their home. Alma died at Integris Canadian Valley Regional Hospital in Yukon.

Cecil was born March 1, 1907, in Iberia, Mo., to Miles E. and Margaret Ann (Deardueff) Carroll.

Alma was born Nov. 19, 1916, in Fort Cobb with her identical twin sister, Elma, to William (Bill) Milton and Petunia (Brown) Lovell.

Cecil went to school in Missouri through the fourth grade and then stopped to work on the farm. He moved to Bristow in 1917 where he had worked when he was young in the drug store as a soda jerk. He had also worked for Montgomery Wards for five years and in the oil field in the Drumright-Bristow area. He sold bread for Royal Baking Company where he met his Alma, while making deliveries at her father's store. They bought the grocery store in El Reno in 1940 and started in the restaurant business in the 1950s. They started a registered Angus business in 1965 and sold the restaurant in 1970.

They enjoyed collecting, restoring and selling antiques. They owned a fish farm after selling the restaurants. Cecil was a member of El Reno First Baptist Church and was involved in El Reno Chamber of Commerce, El Reno Lions Club and Demolays. He taught the junior high boys Sunday school class.

Alma attended Lincoln School in El Reno and was a graduate of El Reno High School in 1934, where she was active in the Literacy Society, Squaw Pep Club and Phi Club. She had worked in her father's grocery store business. She married Cecil Carroll on Sept. 4, 1938. She and Cecil owned Lovell's Grocery Store. They ran several restaurants including Smokey Burger, Carroll's Cafeteria, Pioneer Restaurant in the Southern Hotel and Black Angus Steakhouse. They raised Angus cattle.

Alma was a member of El Reno First Baptist Church since she was about 9 years old. She was a Sunday school secretary, had worked as an outreach leader and enjoyed hosting class meetings in her home. She was also a member of the El Reno Business and Professional Women (30 years) and president for two years, charter member of the Canadian County Historical Society, charter member of the El Reno Republican Women's Club and Chrysanthemum Garden Club. She loved antiques and flower gardening, where she had won prizes at the fair for her marigold and cannas.

Cecil and Alma are survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church — Book of Remembrances, 401 S. Bickford, El Reno, Okla. 73036, or a charity of your choice.
