John Douglas Davies of Harwichport, passed away on June 11, 2023 after a short illness.

John was born in Waltham, Massachusetts to Elizabeth (Purdy) Davies and Victor Davies. He worked as a machinist at W. H. Nichols Company, later Parker Hannifin, for over 30 years. Upon retirement he moved to Harwichport with his beloved wife Dorothy and spent 20 years as a mate on the Freedom Cruise Line.

John is survived by his wife Dorothy "Dotty" (Murray) Davies, son, Robert Davies of Maine, daughter, Amy C. Davies of Harwich, his brother Donald and his wife Shelia of Hudson, MA, his brother-in-law Edwin Murray and his wife Patrica of Dennis, and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his sister Carolyn Davies, sister Dorothy (Davies) Mort, and brother George Davies

Dotty and John spent hours on their porch watching birds and enjoying each other's company. They were devoted partners for 53 years.

He loved the home he had with Dotty and enjoyed vegetable gardening, especially growing tomatoes. One year he grew a tomato plant that topped 20 feet in height. John also had a lifelong love of building and inventing things to help solve problems around the house. He recently built a birdhouse that is being used by a family of bluebirds in the side yard.

John enjoyed living in Harwichport and was known by many people and their dogs for handing out treats. So much so the pups knew his car and would stop their walks to get a cookie.

Shortly after moving to Harwichport John started working as a mate on the Freedom Ferry. He made many friends on the Freedom and visited Saquatucket Harbor every morning. "The guys", Charlie Adams, Calvin Eldredge, and John had their morning coffee meetings at the Mason Jar until its closing when they moved to the harbor.

John was known as a well dressed gentleman who could have a conversation and laugh with anyone. He will be greatly missed.

A private memorial will take place at a later date.
