Royal was the first child of Sally Durrell and Nehemiah May Lyon. He had 7 siblings: Baxter, Sarah Maria, William Huntington, Augustus, Judah, Marcus and Martha (twins).
He was born and brought up in Craftsbury, VT. It was almost certainly that he was named after a contemporary and friend of his fathers' Hon. Royal Corbin.
Royal Lyon married Betsey S. Wilkins in Lodi, Ohio. Their children were: Willard, Sarah, Dow, Delight, Virginia Eva, Emma Augustine and Chancey.

"Royal was a blacksmith and farmer like his father and grandfather. At age 20 he moved to Lodi, OH, where he
lived until 1853. [Lyon Memorial, v.1, pg. 153] In the 1840 Census in Harrisville Twp., Medina Co., Ohio
(Image 1 of 16, ancestry.com) R.C. Lyon is listed with one male age 30-40, and one female age 20-30. His
brother, Baxter, is on the same image. A neighboring farmer had purchased land at a good price in Clinton
County, MI. In 1852 [or '53] RC sold his Ohio farm and the smithy for enough to stake himself and both sons to
cheaper, but adequate, undeveloped land in Clinton County. " (John Fildew)

Royal died of a stroke, while living in Bengal.
