She was born on Aug. 21, 1933, in Winterport, the daughter of Lewis and Ella (Morrill) Libby, who predeceased her. She worked on her family's chicken farm in her earlier years and later was employed by the Waldo County Extension Service. She loved being a wife, mother and grandmother.
Carolyn enjoyed painting, crocheting, and gardening. When they camped, she would collect and paint a rock from each place they stayed. She had a great love for all animals, a spicy personality, loved to tease, and enjoyed dancing and playing the piano. She was a past member of the Rebekahs and was a secretary for many years for TOPS in Unity.
She is survived by her children: Judy Kanney and husband Dave of High Falls, N.Y.; Lorraine Cox and partner Ronnie Levesque of Freedom; Renée Cohen of Bangor; Kevin Cox and wife Laurel of Porter; Roger "Sonny" Wingate of Thorndike; and Tammie Wingate of Thorndike; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Raymond Cox; her second husband, Roger Wingate; her daughter, Valerie Erb; and stepdaughter, Charlene Higgins.
A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at the First Congregational Church, 22 Veterans Highway, Brooks, with the Rev. Ron Cunningham officiating.
