Hemler, 76, died July 2 at the Belle Fourche hospital.
Services were conducted by the Rev. Henry Hartberg. Bob Cronn, Melvin Leckell and Wilbur Dillavou, accompanied by Mrs. Redell Hooper at the organ, sang "Beyond the Sunset".
Burial was in Mt. Moriah cemetary beside his wife under the direction of the Roberts Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Alfred Snyder, William Mauch, Vic Cole, Harold Janes, Leigh Haptonstall and Amos Ewing.
George Thomas Hemler was born near Sundance on Feb. 25, 1888, the son of A.A. and Laura Hemler.
During his youth, he attended a mechanical school in Lincoln, Nebr., where he specialized in welding. Later he worked as a welder in a Rapid City garage.
After leaving South Dakota, he went into partnership with his brother Frank and they operated blacksmith shops in Beulah and Sundance. He retired from the shop and did carpenter work after the death of his brother.
He was married to Nova M. Hogg at Newcastle on Feb. 25, 1939.
Because of failing health, he entered the Northern HIlls Nursing Home at Belle Fourche in July 1963.
He is survived by two brothers - Chester and Bryan, Sundance; one sister, Mrs. W.L. Connell, Hot Springs, S.D.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, three parents and three brothers.
