Robert was the son of Ernest Sievert and Dessie Alspach. He married Reta Brown on 10 January 1943. They were the parents of 5 sons; Ernest, Dolan, Francis, Terry and Bryan. He later married Dorothy Storm Briske on 18 June 1972 in Manistee.
