Magdalena Fey died in Mifflin township.
After having arrived at a ripe old age, Mrs. Madeline Fey passed away to her reward last Friday, the dissolution taking place at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Ruhe of West Grant Avenue, and being due to complications consequent upon advanced years. Mrs. Fey was in her 85th year and was probably the oldest resident of Duquesne. For several years past she had been blind and had sustained injuries in several falls which probably hastened her end.Mrs. Fey was born in Loraine on July 31, 1819, while the province was under French rule. When she was 25 years old Mrs. Fey came to the United States with her husband and settled in an old house which stands just above the old river road on the Hays farm, in the center of what is now the hill district of West Homestead. From the Hays estate the family removed to Bull Run, where they resided until about 10 years ago, when the husband died and wife and mother went to live with her daughter in this place. The deceased was beloved by all who knew her. She never failed to visit and administer to the sick and help the poor, and at one time she nursed a family of five, all of whom were down with the smallpox, when all their friends had deserted them. Such acts as these were numerous and the people of Bull Run and Duquesne reverence her for these deeds. She was a member of the Holy Name Catholic church of Duquesne and of the Sacred Heart union of that congregation. She is survived by seven children - Peter Fey, of Homestead; John, William, Nicholas and Mrs. Henry Ruhe of Duquesne, and Casper, of Boston, Pa. She is also survived by many grandchildren and one great-grandchild.The funeral was conducted on Monday morning from the Holy Name Catholic church and was attended by an unusually large number of friends. The services were conducted by Rev. Father D. Shanahan and were impressive. The pall bearers were six grandchildren, as follows: William and Frank Ruhe, William and Peter Kroeger and Nicholas and John Fey. Interment was made in St. Agnes cemetery at Bull Run.
