Wife was Isabella Dial; an early settler in this area, first coming to Marshall, Tex. from Alabama. Mentioned several times in "Some Biographies of Old Settlers", by Sid S. Johnson. Obituary - "Dr J.W. Davenport died on October 14, 1909, (date doesn't match gravestone) at the age of 83. His wife died many years earlier. He was survived by his children: Mrs. Charles T. Bonner, Mrs. J.P. Patterson, and Charles J. Davenport, William C. Davenport. (Daily Courier Times, Oct. 14th & 16th, 1909
