Oldest Resident's Rites To Be Sunday

John A. Fowler, 95, believed Chester's oldest resident, died Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in the City Hospital following a three-week illness. He resided at 156 Carolina Ave. A native of Pughtown, where he was born Nov. 20, 1857, Fowler spent his lifetime in Hancock County. He was a son of Richard and Sarah Pugh Fowler. Originally a farmer, he resided in Chester about 35 years. He was employed in the former Chester works at the American Sheet & Tin Plate Co. for about 10 years before his retirement. Fowler was a member of the First Methodist Church of Chester. He leaves a daughter, Miss Alda Fowler, a teacher in East Liverpool, at home; two half - sisters, Mrs. Lucy Wheaton and Mrs. Alice Cox of Washington, Pa., and two half - brothers, Charles Fowler, also of Washington, and the Rev. Owen Fowler of Fresno. His wife, Mrs. Jennie Taggart Fowler, died in 1944. Rites will be held in the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester Sunday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. M. V. Stone. Burial will be in Locust Hill Cemetery. Friends may call tonight and Saturday afternoon and night at the chapel.
