Ray was the son of Bowman "Buddy" Jackson Jr and Freddie Mae Johnson Jackson. He was educated in the Houston County School System. He was employed with the Perry Police Department as a Patrol Officer in 1973 and retired at the Rank of Sergeant in 2014 after 41 years of service. He was a member of Sandbed Baptist Church in Kathleen, Georgia.
He was married to Armadie "Tiny" Turner Jackson on October 2, 1974. He was preceded in death by 1 stepson, Joe Frank Hodges Jr and 1 sister, Elnora McKenzie.
