Peter A. Bell, age 82, of Washington, Iowa, died Sunday, June 18, 2023, at Halcyon House following a short illness.

Visitation will begin 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. A private family interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington.

Pete was born February 14, 1941, in Washington, Iowa, the son of William and Eva (Dodson) Bell. He attended country school in Washington County and later graduated from Washington High School in 1959. Pete graduated from Iowa State University, where he played in the marching band. He continued playing with the Iowa State Alumni Band for many years.

Pete was united in marriage to Carol Lance on March 26, 1961, in Washington, Iowa.

Pete was a lifelong resident of the Washington Community. He farmed all of his life west of Washington. He enjoyed all aspects of farming including livestock and row crops. Pete also owned and operated Bell Realty for many years.

He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. Pete was very civic-minded and was a 60-year member of the Washington Municipal Band, a member of the Washington Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber Ambassadors, served on the Washington Community School Board. Pete was active in the Washington Masonic Lodge Post 26 and the KAABA Shrine. As a Shriner, Pete participated in many local parades. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Iowa Corn Growers and Iowa Soybean Association. Pete rode RAGBRAI for many years.

Pete is survived by his son, Lance (Kerri) Bell; two daughters, Billa (Kenny) Armstrong and Jeanne McCabe; six grandchildren, Ellie Bell and Sophie Bell; Kati Armstrong-Brock and husband, Matt; Kelsi Uthe and husband, Nick; Delaney McCabe and Dylan McCabe; five great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Colton Uthe; Aiden Davis; Olivia and Gage Brock.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol, in 2022; son-in-law, Bill McCabe; and brother, Dave Bell.
