Funeral services for Lewis Adair Jr. held


Funeral services for Lewis Adair, Jr., 66 of Hulbert, OK were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday June 12, at the Hilltop Holiness Church with Brother J.W. Copeland officiating. Burial followed in the U.S. National Cemetery at Fort Gibson under the direction of the Reed Culver Funeral Home of Tahlequah.


Pallbearers were Eugene Adair, Dale Adair, James Linch, Lincoln Adair, Roger Farmer, and Steve Carey. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Adair, William Hogner, Jim Sams, Joe Farmer, Jimmy Sams, and Randy Carey.


Mr. Adair was born January 3, 1930, in Stilwell, the son of Lewis and Annie (Fivekiller) Adair, Sr. and he died Saturday, June 8, at the U.S. Veterans Administration Medical Center in Muskogee.


He grew up and attended schools at Stilwell. From 1948 to 1952 he served in the United States Army. One June 25, 1954, he married Sudie Sams in Richmond, Indiana. He was a long-time Cherokee County resident and pastored at the Freewill Holiness Church and the Old Mission Holiness Church. He enjoyed visiting various church congregations. he was also a welder, making craft items from iron. He was a member of the VFW post 3707 in Tahlequah.


Mr. Adair was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Audie Lawson, Lucy Swimmer, And Betsy Farmer; and one brother, Levi Paul Adair. Survivors include his wife of forty one years, Sudie, of the home, four children, Marie McNeil, Tahlequah, Eugene Adair, Dale Adair, and Paul Adair all of Hulbert; two sisters, Fannie McLemore of Stilwell, and Louise Carey of Hulbert; one brother, Lincoln Adair of Tahlequah; twelve grandchildren, one great grandchild, many nieces, nephews, and other relatives, as well as one host of friends and loved ones.
