Alma Adamchak, 57, of 718 S. Park St., was found dead by two teenage campers shortly before 10 p.m. about nine miles northwest of Streator in what authorities say was apparently a suicide.

Mrs. Adamchak apparently drove out to the area, parked her car, walked into the wooded area just northeast of the Sandy Ford bridge and shot herself with a handgun, LaSalle County Coroner Marion Osborne said today.

About 30 minutes after her body was discovered Thursday night, Osborne declared her dead at the scene.

She could have shot herself anytime Thursday, Osborne said, because it was her day off from Heritage Manor Nursing Home and no one was keeping track of her. The last her neighbors saw any sign of her was at 9 a.m. when her car was still parked in her driveway, Osborne said.

Friends of Mrs. Adamchak reported she was depressed over the sudden death of her husband in 1980, Osborne said.

David Geschwind, 17 of 1604 Boys St. and John Maggard, 17 of 1201 E. Main St. found the body while camping in the area overnight, Osborne said.
