Youngest son of John Albert Chaloner and Edith Mary Chaloner, née Gaisford. His father was born in Branston, Lincolnshire, his mother in Semington, Wiltshire.
He was baptised on 25th August 1918 at Northrepps, Norfolk. His father was a sadler, 27th Battalion, King's Liverpool Regiment. They lived at Branston near Lincoln. He joined a brother, Cyril John Chaloner, who had been born in Ross.
By 1921 his father had become a salesman collector in the Implement Trade. They were living at 34, High Street, Ross.
He joined the Royal Air Force during the Second World War, and was a Leading Aircraftman when he married.
He married Evelyn Louie May Gabb at St Barnabas, Tuffley, Gloucester on Saturday 15th August 1942. Her father gave away the bride. The best man was her cousin, Percy Gabb. She was attended by Miss Joan Willis. The bride made her gown and veil, the bridesmaid dress and both mothers' outfits. After the ceremony, the bride's bouquet was placed on the grave of her grandparents.
They moved into Mywaye, Grange Road, Gloucester, after returning from their honeymoon in Shropshire. The 1947 electoral roll showed them living with Louisa C Gabb.
He died at 85 Grange Road. His ashes were buried at Whaddon in the grave of Louisa Gabb on 19th October 1983.
