James E. "Jim" Dawson, 77, died November 23, 2009 at Hospice House, Hutchinson.

He was born April 10, 1932 in Hutchinson to Robert W. and Vada Houck Dawson.

He was a 1950 graduate of Nickerson High School and 1954 graduate of Kansas State University. He was a farmer in the Nickerson area.

On November 29, 2008 he married Shirley Chambers Stapleton in Hutchinson. She survives. Other survivors include 3 daughters, Mary Dawson, Whitmore Lake, MI, Ann Schrock, Edmond, OK, Kay Dawson, Chicago, IL, a son Bruce Dawson, The Woodlands, TX, a stepson Steve Smith, Manhattan, a stepdaughter, Debra Smith, Wichita, a sister, Linda Brawner, Hutchinson, 5 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and 5 step-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Saturday, December 5, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at Elliott Chapel with Pastor Bob Dalke presiding. Cremation has taken place. Friends may sign his register Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 9 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

Memorials may be made to Hospice House in care of the mortuary.
