She was born April 21, 1942 at home in Hedrick to Harold and Gail Roquet Hedlund. She married William Edward Klodt October 26, 1963.
A graduate of Pekin High School in 1960, Betty earned a degree as a Registered Nurse from St. Joseph School of Nursing and a degree in Health Education from Drake University. She worked as an RN at St. Joseph Hospital until becoming a stay-at-home mom. While her children were growing up, she was an instructor at Indian Hills Community College in the Adult Education Program, worked weekends at Ottumwa Regional Health Center and offered private counseling for eating disorders as well as death and dying during her summers away from Indian Hills. Throughout her career, Betty has helped her husband on the family farm. She has worked beside him operating major equipment and managed the family farm for over the past 30 years.
She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and was a lifelong supporter of many charitable organizations.
Surviving is her husband, William; four children, Joyce (Rick) Barre of Ottumwa, James (Dr. Jan Tallman) Klodt of Ottumwa, Julie Klodt of Gilbert, AZ and Mary (Brian) Utoft of Chandler, AZ; six grandchildren, Kala (Matt) Sulivan of Ames, Kari Nunnikhoven of Des Moines, Alex Klodt of California, Zoe Klodt of Iowa City, Will Klodt of Ottumwa, and Jessica Utoft of Arizona; one great-grandchild, Miles Sullivan of Ames; and 3 sisters, Juanita Tucker of MN, Karen Eckley of Martinsburg, and Becky Droz of Fairfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Katheryn Nichols and Beverly Callen; brother, John Hedlund; and brothers-in-law, Dallas Eckley, Bob Droz, and Paul Tucker.
