Rufus Washburn was the oldest son of Nehemiah Washburn and was named after his uncle, Captain Rufus Washburn (just as his uncle Rufus named his oldest son Nehemiah). Rufus married Orilla (Aurillia) Stevens and had five children. He was a farmer, and when he was almost 38 years of age he went out to work in the fields in the rain and caught a cold, which became severe and led to his death shortly there after.

His widow later married Oliver Rounds and had another 6 children before she died sometime between 1860 and 1870.

Rufus and Orilla were my great great great grandparents.
