Born October 9, 1949 in Kansas City, Missouri, he was the son of the late Francis Leondro Allegri and Mary Catherine Fisher Allegri. On September 25, 1971 at Wornall Baptist Church in Kansas City, he married Karen Higby, and she survives of the home.

Also surviving are three sons, Mark Allegri and his wife Michelle, Nicholas Allegri and his wife Sybil, and Daniel Allegri and his wife Reagan, all of Kansas City; seven grandchildren, Nicholas Allegri, Ella Allegri, Lukas Allegri, Holland Allegri, Helena Allegri, Gia Allegri, and Rush Allegri; and a sister, Meredith Ann "Mimi" Kopulos and her husband Greg of Kansas City. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Michael Allegri, Peter Allegri, Paul Allegri, and Mark Allegri.

Dr. Allegri was a longtime active member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater, where he served as Lector, and on numerous church boards. He was a member and past-President of the Saline County Health Department Board, a charter member and past-President of the Slater Optimist Club, a member and past-President of the Slater Chamber of Commerce, and the 401 Couples Club. He had served on the Slater City Council since April of 1991, and as Mayor of Slater since September of 2005. He was a graduate of the Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, and worked for two years in the Kansas City area before establishing his chiropractic practice in Slater in 1981. He loved serving the community of Slater, enjoying its festivals and celebrations, especially the July 4 fireworks. Steve was a huge fan of fireworks, so since he has been Mayor, Slater has been known to have the biggest displays in the county.
