Edward J. Ftorski, 80, of Douglassville passed away Monday, May 22, 2023 in St. Joseph Medical Center, Reading.

He was born in Bloomsburg on November 18, 1942, a son of the late Maude B. (Rhone) and Alexander Ftorski.

When Edw was two, his family moved to the Philadelphia area.

He graduated from Upper Darby High School.

Edw served in the U.S. Navy as a Machinist Mate from 1962 - 1964.

He moved to Reading and worked for Aluminum & Marble Stone Company and Reading Tube. Later, he became an Over-The-Road Truck Driver for forty plus years prior to retiring from the Landstar System with twenty-six years as an Owner - Operator.

In 2004, while working Hurricane relief in Florida, Edw and several other drivers purchased bicycles for the children who lost their homes and were living in temporary housing at U.S. Navy's Naval Outlying Landing Field Saufley Field. Edw asked the Landstar's Safety Department if they could provide bicycle helmets and they did.

After his retirement in 2011, he started as a Volunteer Campground Host for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Conservation and Natural Resources in the State Parks System at French Creek, Hickory Run, and Promised Land State Parks. He was well-liked by the campers who would ask if Camp Host Edw was in the park.

Edw enjoyed his time as a Leader in Boy Scout Troop 597, Amityville while his son was a Scout and after he aged out, Edw became the Treasurer for a number of years. He always enjoyed the camping trips keeping the boys guessing as to what he would do next - as he was quite a joker.

He has been a member of the USS James C. Owens Association (DD776) since 1989. The Association hosts a yearly reunion for any sailor who was on the USS J. C. Owens. Edw served as Vice President and was President for the last seventeen years.

Edw is survived by his wife: Ann D. (Hassler) Ftorski; his daughter: Marjorie "Midge" (Steve) Hudyma of Elizabeth City, North Carolina; his son: Alexander E. Ftorski of Jacksonville, North Carolina; his granddaughter: Jaelin Hudyma; his grandsons: Garrett Hudyma and Liam Ftorski; his niece: Sue (Rob) Trimbe; his nephews: Bruce Lamonaca; his great-niece; his great-nephews; his great-great-niece; his great-great-nephews; and, his great-great-great-nephew.
