A memorial service celebrating the life of Elizabeth Louise "Betty Lou" Whitmeyer Alexander Hawkins was held on December 11, 2012. Betty Lou was born April 26, 1926, in Plaquemine, Louisiana, to G. Randell and Marie Louise Berret Whitmeyer and passed away on December 5, 2012. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James R. "Dee" Alexander; daughter, Roberta Louise Alexander; and sister Edna Marie O'Brien Allen.

Betty Lou graduated from C. E. Byrd High School where she was a football sweetheart. She graduated from LSU, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority and continued her love of football through the LSU Tigers. Whenever the Tigers were playing, she instructed her family to answer the phone, saying "Geaux Tigers"! Betty Lou was an avid bridge player, a gourmet cook, and absolutely adored her family. During her 35-year career as a realtor, she was chosen as Realtor of the year in 1982.
