Rites to be held for Bruce Akins this morning

Bruce R. Akins, 62, died late Tuesday, December 8, in the Bulloch County hospital after a long illness.

Mr. Akins was born in Bulloch County and lived in Statesboro all of his life. He had been employed by the Mutual Fertilizer Co. for 30 years.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Mattie Fletcher Akins of Statesboro; his mother, Mrs. Morgan R. Akins of Barnesville; one brother; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. from the chapel of the Smith-Tillman Mortuary, conducted by Elder T. Roe Scott and the Elder Rollie Riner. Burial will be in the Eastside Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be nephews Harold Akins, Lamar Akins, Ralph Akins, Bill Akins, Craighton Perry, Gene L. Hodges, Dr. Wayne Culbreth, Earl Swicord, and John G. Fletcher. The body will remain at the funeral home until the funeral hour.
