Enlisted on April 1, 1862 into Co. C. 16th South Carolina Infantry, C.S.A. Mortally wounded at the Battle of Franklin, Tennessee on November 30, 1864, and died of his wounds in a Franklin Confederate Hospital on December 24, 1864. Buried in Tennessee Section 53, Grave #25 McGavock Confederate Cemetery, Franklin, Tennessee.Mortally wounded on November 30th, captured on December 17th, and died in a Franklin Confederate Hospital on December 24th, 1864. His brother, Pvt. Wm. M. Cely, born 1823, also of Co. C. 16th South Carolina died of disease in the Lauderdale Confederate Hospital on July 23, 1863 and is buried in that Confederate Cemetery in Mississippi. Thomas has a Memorial Marker in the Bethesda Methodist Church Cemetery, Powdersville, Anderson County, South Carolina.
