Mayor of Redlands from 1924-1930
70 years. Son of John and Ann(Brush) Wheaton, early day pioneers with the Mormon pioneers in California. John and Anna where married in San Bernardino. He was birn in Santa Ana and when he was 17 years old,left home on horseback coming to Redlands where he found work with Arthur Gregory, who operated a fruit drier on West Brockton Avenue.
Shortly he enetered the employ of Dunn Bros., whose feed and fuel buisness at sixth and Stated streets became his own in later years. He bought the buisness from George Dunn in 1908.
In 1914 he acquired his first orange grove, buying and selling numerous properties since. He was the director of the Chamber of Commerce for 25 years. He was elected City counceilamn in 1922, Mayor in 1924. During his administration that the city voted $525,000. in bonds to purchase Mill Creek water rights, and other water improvements. Most of Redlands streets where paved at this time too. He was involved in many other civic activities.
On December 5, 1899 he was married to Eva Dennis. They had 4 children. There home was at 1001 East Cypress Avenue.
