"Sports World Mourns O'Neill
Pat Developed Many Stars in Minooka
The regional sports world yesterday mourned the passing of Patrick F. "Pat" O'Neill, brother of Steve O'Neill, manager of the Cleveland Indians, and organizer and first manager of the old Minooka Blues, who died Saturday morning at his home, 3024 McCarthy Street, Minooka. He had suffered a paralytic stroke two weeks ago.
The name O'Neill is known wherever baseball is played or discussed. Four of the brothers, Mike, Jimmy, Steve and the late Jack O'Neill, all made their mark in the big leagues.
Interested in developing young players, Pat was greatly responsible for the success of his brothers in baseball as well as Mike McNally, now manager of Wilkes-Barre in the NYP League; Charles (Chick) Shorten, John (Butch) Gallagher, and others. Mike and Jack O'Neill formed the famous battery for the St. Louis Cardinals at the turn of the century."
