Robert Allen Stanton, age 82, of Bennettsville, South Carolina, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2023. He was born in Bennettsville, South Carolina, the son of Lillie Gaynell "Nell" Stanton and John Allen Stanton Jr.
He is survived by his sister, Janice Stanton Clarkson, and two sons, Robert Allen Stanton II (Carol) of McColl, South Carolina, and Ronald Howell Stanton of Bennettsville, South Carolina. He was the proud grandfather of five grandchildren, Ben Stanton (Marci), Mary Gibson Stanton Driggers (Eric), Kaylee Stanton, Nicholas Stanton, and Michael Stanton, and great-grandfather to Russell Stanton, Mariella Stanton, and Savannah Driggers.
He is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Wanda Howell Stanton.
Robert was a 1958 graduate of Gibson High School and attended King's Business College in Charlotte, North Carolina. In his early years, he was employed by JP Stevens and later became owner/operator of R&W Karts and Parts and RobRon, Inc. He enjoyed anything to do with racing, including driving and building motors and chassis. He also enjoyed restoring vintage cars and karts and truly loved "cruising" in his 1950 Ford Convertible. In his later years, his hobbies included listening to Carolina Beach Music and spending time with friends.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, Pine Grove Methodist Church in McColl.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Robert's caregivers as well as Scotland Regional Hospice for their in-home and inpatient services provided.
