Marvin J. Dvorak, age 73, of Grafton, ND, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at his home.

Marvin John was born on August 13, 1949, in Grafton, ND to the late James and Marie (Maresh) Dvorak. Always in a hurry, he was born before the doctor arrived. He was raised on the family farm in Veseleyville, ND. Marvin graduated from Park River High School in the Class of 1967, he then took a solo adventure to the west coast where he lived and worked.

When he returned to North Dakota, he began his career as a welder at Kerian Machines. He met and married Rita Mattson on March 17, 1972, and they welcomed their beloved children: Renae Ann, Lorie Jean, and Jeremy James.

Over the 50 years at Kerian, Marvin retired as a Manufacturing Supervisor. He built over 3,000 machines using his skills, work ethic, and reliability to impact the agricultural industry throughout the world.

Marvin joined the Grafton Lutheran Church and was united in marriage to Mary (Flaaskog) Phipps on June 29, 2002. He welcomed and raised Mary's daughter Codi as his own. Upon their retirement, they embarked on a cross country adventure visiting a multitude of destinations. They enjoyed spending time together, with their families, and especially their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

You could always find Marvin in a boat fishing at the lake or in a tree stand bow hunting at the river. He enjoyed hunting in Western North Dakota, making several trips each year. He loved the outdoors; from going on hikes looking for deer sheds, bird watching, to spending hours tending to his vegetable and flower garden. He was well known for his canned hot sauce, pickles, sauerkraut, deer bologna, and his famous chocolate chip cookies. Marvin loved singing along to seventies and eighties rock, remembering ALL the lyrics. Marvin loved helping others. If you asked, he was there. He could fix or build anything, including restoration and building of many "hot rod" cars. He enjoyed sharing and passing his knowledge onto others.

Marvin was a founding member of the Northern Lights Archery Club. He also played softball and participated in the Grafton Pool League for 25 years. He began his love for sports and competition when he was a quarterback and by playing left field for the Park River Aggies. This love continued and he enjoyed watching and attending many high school and professional sporting events, such as the New York Yankees. This fierce competitiveness even came out at the table when playing cards or board games with his family, winning most of the games even after re-checking his "Dvorak" math.

Marvin will be dearly missed by his wife, Mary, Grafton, ND, children: Renae (Randy) McMartin, St. Thomas, ND; Lorie (Anthony) Burns, Waunakee, WI; Jeremy (Danielle) Dvorak, Grafton, ND; step daughter Codi (Dan) Johnson, Vero Beach, FL; grandchildren: Alyson, Trevor, Courtney, Cody, Kimberly, Aiden, Paetyn, Abby, Taylor, Jayla, Luca, and Rowan; great grandchildren: Ellis, Ila Belle, Keira, Brayden, Inesza; siblings: Anna Mae (John) Hankey, Park River, ND; Eileen Bennett, King City, CA; Beverly (Russell) Hanson, Watford City, ND; Rita (Mike) Atkinson, Paynesville, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant brother, Gordon.

Memorial Services: Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Grafton Lutheran Church.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will be at Grafton Lutheran Cemetery.
