Alice Carroll Allen Short Biography
Alice C. Allen was born on Long Island, NY in 1938. At 1½ yrs. her parents moved to Tavernier, Fl. The family had to leave the Keys during WWII and a bit longer but returned to Tavernier for good in 1948. Alice graduated from Coral Shore School in 1954 and attended the Univ. of Florida from which she eventually took a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1968.
Alice had studied piano since age 10 and later continued elective music studies at the Univ. of Fla. and also at a conservatory in Miami. She graduated from business school in Miami in the late 1950's.
Despite loving music, she never intended to become either a musician or a teacher. However, in 1970 while finishing her Master's research in Cultural Anthropology a family tragedy required she take over her mother's Tavernier piano studio literally overnight. Finding the teaching delightful she never looked back and was teaching virtually up until a few months before her passing.
