Katie Adeline Via Johnson Lane, 96, of Ferrum, VA passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023 peacefully at home. She was born February 20, 1927 in the Dodson community in Patrick County, VA, the eldest daughter of the late Jesse Nash Via and Nannie Lou Bryant Via.
Katie worked into her seventies at various occupations. She was a waitress, bus driver, a retail clerk, and worked with the elderly and mentally challenged children. She retired from DuPont. She enjoyed walking and hiking. She also enjoyed painting. She had a zest for life and was active up until a few months before her passing. She came from a large family and loved and cherished them all.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Neal, Owen, Grant, and Clifton Via; and by her sisters, Rena Ingram, Nancy Hancock, and Patsy Spencer.
She is survived by her sons, Vance Johnson and wife, Gayle and Mark Johnson and wife, Clara; daughter, Alana Lane; sisters, Lennis Pickurel and Eunice Roberts; granddaughters, April Cobb and Kimberly Johnson; great-grandchildren, Cierra Bradshaw, Nathaniel Nuckles, and Logan Calfee; step-grandsons, Jonathan, Eddie and Thomas Graham; step-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Kynzli, Nickolas, Lyrrah, Natalie, Colton, Carleigh, Aycen, and Elijah; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 19, 2023 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Norris Funeral Services, Martinsville Chapel. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Union Primitive Baptist Church in Ferrum, VA with Pastor Phillip Woods officiating. Burial will be private.
