Carol Lynn Borzage, a vibrant friend, daughter, sister, mother, golfer, tennis player, bowler, equestrian, and volleyball player, passed away on April 26th, 2023, due to complications from hypersensitivity pneumonitis. She was known for always being positive and cheerful. She brought a smile to anyone in need of a pick-me-up. Her memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

While it was never in Carol's nature to take center stage, her journey has offered a potent reminder about the importance of lung health. Her battle with hypersensitivity pneumonitis led to pulmonary fibrosis and COPD. Many of her last words included "I can't seem catch my breath," "I can't breathe," "I love you," and "Don't cry for me. Everything will be ok. It is just life." These heartfelt words, though spoken with difficulty, beautifully encapsulated the essence of Carol's life — her resilience, the boundless love she had for her family, and her unwavering strength.

Born in 1936, Carol's life was a testament to her adventurous spirit and infectious energy. A proud 1954 alumna of Santa Monica High School, she never missed an issue of the Viking News! Her days were filled with anything from enjoying Spam and eggs in the morning to walking around proudly with some newly found corncob pipes. Her summers, often spent at Muscle Beach, Santa Monica, consisted of being hoisted overhead by the top body builders of that era.

One of Carol's most enduring passions was her love for horses. As a teenager, she spent countless hours at the Riviera Country Club with her horses. After the club closed its horse facilities, she continued her journey with horses at Crestwood Stables and later at Hotel de Hoss in Culver City, demonstrating her unyielding dedication to her equine companions. Her side "hustle" of the time was to help train notable actors as westerns were very popular in Hollywood at that time.

In 1970, Carol found eternal love with William Borzage Sr. In 1972, they welcomed their only child William Jr. After William Sr's passing in 1991, Carol made the decision not to date again, often saying she "married the best so there was no reason to date anyone else!" Her devotion to her late husband was a reflection of the depth of her love for him. Her home was filled with tiny reminders of their love for each other, from the packs of matches they collected from the restaurants they visited while dating, to jewelry and pendants inscribed with "Forever, Bill" and "Forever, Carol".

Carol is survived by her only child, William Jr, her daughter-in-law, Rocio, and her two beloved grandchildren, William III, and Chloe. Her legacy will continue to live on through them, in their memories, and in the stories they will tell of their spirited and loving grandmother.

To honor Carol, the family wishes to transform this experience into a positive call to action. We encourage everyone to cherish and to prioritize their lung health. Please schedule regular visits with a pulmonologist, adhere to any prescribed inhaler medications, and breathe fresh air. Carol's family hopes that sharing her experience will raise awareness about the severity of chronic obstructive respiratory diseases (COPD) and the importance of respiratory health.

Carol will be interred at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City on May 22, 2023, at 12:00 p.m., followed by a private memorial at the family's home in Thousand Oaks on May 27, 2023. In a touching tribute, her grandchildren will be making bouquets for her burial.

In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that you donate the amount you would spend on flowers to the COPD Foundation (https://www.copdfoundation.org/) in Carol's name. This gesture will not only honor Carol's memory but also help others battling these challenging lung diseases.

Rest in peace, Mom. Your legacy will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved you.

Love,

William JR, Rocio, William III, Chloe, Titan (woof), Tasha (woof)
