Casper native, Jack Dean Pickett, 81, died Mar. 13, 2008 at the Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton, WA, as the result of cancer while with family in Washington state.

Jack was born in Casper on Aug. 24, 1926 to George H. and Ruby Esther (Sanson) Pickett. He grew up in Casper and received his schooling in Casper, graduating from Natrona County High School in 1944.

While working at Burlington Railroad Roundhouse, he blew steam alarm whistles on June 6, 1944 to announce D-Day to Casper and then left for the U.S. Navy active duty that day.

Jack was a WWII Navy combat veteran in several major Pacific battles as GM3C (Gunners Mate) on anti-aircraft aboard three destroyers.

After the war, Jack owned a publishing company and advertising agency including media on S.A.C. and T.A.C. USAF bases. Due to rare declassified information he received, was recently featured on a special History Channel TV program "Real UFO's" concerning U.S. "Stealth" Aircraft development, using top secret governmental "Flying Saucer" technology. Never before seen U.S. jet flying wing disc aircraft of that type are depicted on that TV program.

Jack was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Post 9439 in Casper and a member of Elks Lodge #2081 in Kerrville, Texas. He was also a charter member of the WWII Memorial located in Washington D.C.

Survivors include his daughter, Cheryl (John) Bremerton, Wash.; two grandsons, Blake Whiten of Bremerton and Chase Whiten of Birmingham, Ala.; his aunt, Alberta Steensland of Bremerton; and numerous cousins.

At Jack's request, no services will be held. Cremation has taken place. A private burial in Mount View Cemetery in Basin.
